The detailed distribution and heterogeneity of various immunocompetent cells were characterized in the normal adrenal gland
of the rat, with special emphasis on major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class II-expressing cells and macrophages. All
adrenals contained at least two different populations of cells reactive with the dendritic cell or the macrophage antibodies.
These cells were clearly distinguished from adrenal parenchymal cells by their morphology and location. The majority of dendritic
cells were immunoreactive for the MHC class II (Ia) antigen (MRC OX6) and/or the dendritic cell antibodies (MRC OX62), and
negative for the macrophage antibodies (ED1, ED2, and/or MRC OX42), whereas the main population of macrophages was immunonegative
for the former antibodies and positive for the latter. The OX62-positive cells and the OX42-labeled cells occurred exclusively
throughout the medulla. The cellular density of dendritic cells in the adrenal cortex was significantly higher than that of
macrophages. Double-immunoperoxidase staining for ED1 and OX6 revealed that positively stained cells could be classified into
the following categories: ED1+OX6+, ED1+OX6−, and ED1−OX6+. More then 40% of OX6+ cells were immunoreactive for ED1 in the zona glomerulosa, while approximately 15%, 20%, and 30% of OX6+ cells were positive for ED1 in the zona fasciculata, zona reticularis and medulla, respectively. ED1+ED2− cells were more frequently detected in the zona glomerulosa than in other adrenal zones. Only a few ED1−ED2+ cells were located in the zona glomerulosa, whereas a large number of them were found in the zona fasciculata. In the zona
reticularis and medulla, ED1+ED2+, ED1+ED2−, and ED1−ED2+ cells were detected in the ratio 2:1:3. Our rsults suggest that dendritic cells and macrophages mature during their migration
within the adrenal gland. These immunocompetent cells may contribute to a paracrine regulation of adrenal function under physiological
conditions.

Thirty strains of Yersinia pseudotuberculosis were isolated from rabbits (17 strains), wild rats (9 strains) and house rats (4 strains) in China between 1990 and 1993. The biochemical properties of these isolates were identical with those of Y. pseudotuberculosis and no special characteristics were found in these strains. Serologically, serogroups 4b and 5b were identical to isolates found in Japan, and a new serogroup 1c and unclassified strains have also been detected. The existence of virulence-associated properties were different among strains. The pYV plasmid was detected from 6 strains of 30 isolates. A double-stranded RNA plasmid which confers the superkiller phenotype was transferred into a wine yeast (Montrachet strain 522) and its leucine-requiring derivative (strain 694) by cytoduction, using the protoplast fusion technique. The killer wine yeast constructed completely suppressed the growth of killer-sensitive strains of Saccharomyces cerevisiae in yeast extract-peptone-glucose medium at pH 4.5, whereas the killer effect was somewhat decreased at pH 3.5. The wine yeast harboring the killer factor also inhibited the growth of killer-sensitive cells satisfactorily when it was grown in grape juice. 相似文献

Summary Processes in the development of intestinal metaplasia of the stomach were investigated from the morphological and histochemical approaches using light and electron microscopic techniques. The specimens taken from 38 gastric carcinomas and 15 gastric and/or duodenal ulcers were subjected to this study. Morphological appearances of the intestinal metaplasia observed in routine examination with hematoxylin and eosin staining was able to be divided into complete and incomplete metaplasia by the light and electron microscopic histochemical stainings of the mucosubstances. The columnar cells at the area of the incomplete metaplasia had both the properties of the intestinal epithelia and the gastric foveolar epithelia. The incomplete as well as the complete metaplasia arose from the generative cells at the isthmus of the gland. The generative cells, however, sometimes gradually transformed to produce the complete metaplastic cells. The two processes of the development of the intestinal metaplasia were proposed and discussed. 相似文献
